Education for Children
Currently 98 children study at the Al-Zahoor Academy. The classes range from Year 1 to Year 8 and we teach both boys and girls.
We are registered with the Bangladesh government as a school and we follow the government’s schools’ curriculum. When our current Year 8’s move onto Year 10, they will sit the Bangladeshi government’s Matric exams which is equivalent to the UK’s GCSE exams.
Some of the students also study Hidfh in addition to their normal curriculum.
In Bangladesh, the government does not fund a child’s education. All the children at our school come from extremely deprived backgrounds with many being orphans, and cannot afford to pay for their education so their education costs are met by Al-Zahoor Welfare Foundation.
We ensure that every child who attends school is fed a free nutritious lunch at the Al-Zahoor Academy.
The monthly cost of education for a child is £20 per month. This includes education, school books, stationery and one meal a day at the Al-Zahoor Academy.
If you would like to set up a monthly standing order for the education of a child please email al-zahoor@outlook.com.
Alternatively, you are welcome to donate any amount as a one-off donation which will go towards the education of a child.
(We also have three education camps have been set up in the Refugee camps (including a nursery). The Al-Zahoor Foundation funds the salaries of all the teachers who teach over 200 children in these camps. Please see the Rohingya Appeal page.)
