Assalmu ‘alaikum and Eid Mubarak.
The time here is now 1.30am in the morning and the government of Bangladesh has just announced that it is Eid tommorrow.
Alhamdulillah, we have just finished distributing the last of our zakat-ul-fitr food parcels. In the end we gave out 530 food parcels, an excess of 130 from our original order.
People have been queuing up the whole day at the Al-Zahoor Academy to receive their parcels, and we have had to implement a ticketing system in order to keep the queues fair.
Though it has been raining heavily the whole day and the roads are muddy, men, women and children walked 5/6 miles to reach us. People came well into the night, until 1am in the morning, so you can imagine how desperate and needy some of the people are in this country.
The last 30 food parcels only contained 5kg of rice as in the end we ran out of the other food items.
We did not want to turn away anyone empty handed, so we gave them just rice. Alhamdulillah, the 5kg of rice exceeded the required amount necessary to give for zakat-ul-fitr.
To those people who donated their zakat-ul-fitr to us this year, we have tried our best to ensure that we delivered on this trust. And we have made dua for the volunteers that helped us with the packaging and distribution of the food, and those who donated so generously to Al-Zahoor Welfare Foundation UK, that Allah SWT gives them the greatest of blessings. Ameen.
